Tips for finding the perfect Wedding Dress!
Are you planning your dream wedding, but not really sure where to start on the dress? There’s so much pressure put on the “perfect” dress that dress shopping can become really stressful. The last thing you want is finding your dress to feel like a job, so sit back, relax for a couple minutes, and read some stress relieving tips on how to shorten the wedding dress hunt!
#1 Pin it!
The first step to finding your perfect dress is creating a Pinterest board with your favorite styles. As always Pinterest is your friend, I know create another Pinterest board? You’ve probably already got dozens going for your wedding! I assure you it will be helpful, doing a little “research” before you start the big search will help you get an idea of what’s out there, and what materials, designers, styles, and patterns you like. Visualizing what you like and having a safe place to keep them is helpful and will be essential in keeping your thoughts organized!
#2 Take a quiz!
Taking a quiz can help you decipher what dress styles and designs interest you! David’s Bridal has a great bridal quiz that really helped me get an idea of what kind of dress I was looking for, and what styles I liked. Also, quizzes where there are no wrong answers are always kind of fun, right? Tie the knot also has a really great wedding dress quiz that you might find helpful!
#3 Style Matters
It’s important to have an idea of what you want your big day to look like before you choose a dress. You want the “mood” of your dress to match the style of your wedding, you don’t want your dress “clashing” with anything at your wedding. If you are having a winter wedding you probably won’t want a short, light, and breezy dress. Having an idea of what your venue, and time of year looks like is important to know before making any decisions. Knowing the rough style of your wedding is going to help you pick a dress that not only suits you, but your wedding mood as well! Doing this will make narrowing your dress choices down that much easier, and we want to make everything as simple as we can, right?
#4 What you think is Important
Wedding dress shopping can feel like a mind game. So many opinions coming in from so many people. Opinions from close friends, all the way to that random girl you’ve talked to once or twice, but for some reason are friends on Facebook with. I find that you will get ALOT of advice from people who have already experienced wedding dress shopping from their big day. The problem can be when you have so many opinions and different ideas, that defining your own thoughts and ideas can be hard; you may even doubt that your opinion is valid. The important thing is remembering that you have the power of a simple “NO”, or “I don’t want to wear that.”. Don’t feel as if you have to wear your great grandmother’s dress just because some family members want you to, you can politely decline and move on with your dream dress. Don’t bend your dreams simply because you are afraid of offending someone. The truth is when planning something as big as a wedding, someone is going to end up offended and you really can’t control that. Keep in mind that this is YOUR day and you are the one wearing the dress. Take peoples advice yes, but remember what you think MATTERS. When shopping bring only a select couple of friends/family, this way you won’t feel overwhelmed with suggestions, and you will avoid the kind of drama we see on shows like “Say yes to the dress”.
#5 Best foot forward!
When dress shopping I suggest that you go feeling like the best version of yourself. Remember, your dress needs to represent you. Start by putting your best foot forward during shopping. If you feel your best with your hair curled, makeup done and your favorite pair of shoes then go for it! This way, you can know how you feel in the gowns. This will also help you get an idea of what you will look like on your wedding day! Trust your gut. Follow the vibes you have from your day to day wear and let that translate into your dress choice. This could result in a dress you feel fabulous and comfortable in, but also, don’t be nervous to try something new! You might surprise yourself with what you end up liking. In the end, stay true to yourself and what you love and feel best in!
#6 Have fun with it!
I know it’s hard not to feel stressed with all that goes into planning a wedding, but try to have fun with dress shopping! This is a great time for you to bond with friends/family as you pick the dress that you are going to wear on one of the best days of your life! So yes girl, get excited and have a blast with it!!
